Apple slice “donuts”

I’ve had my fair share of donuts! There is nothing more satisfying than a hot of the shelf, glazed #donut that melts in your mouth. Growing up going to the beach, there was a #KrispyKreme donuts around the corner. My mom would always spot when the hot light was on! If you know what that hot light means, then you’ve witnessed the line of customers out the door waiting for that hot #fresh donut right out of the fryer. We would by a dozen and half would be gone before we got home. But now, 20 years later, those delicious donuts I wouldn’t think twice about eating, don’t do me any justice. Every now and then, I’ll treat myself but it’s so hard to just have one! I came across an image of Apple slice “donuts” and thought, hmmmm this looks #tasty and #creative. Totally guilt free but I could still enjoy those tasty toppings you would get on top of a donut.

The artistry of donut #toppings is out of this world. While living on the West Coast, I visited a well-known hipster donut shop called Voodoo donuts. That was my first taste of bacon on a donut and ever since, my topping choices are endless. I used whatever we had on hand to top our apple slices with. I knew Jillian would like more sweet toppings so used fruit loops and leftover Easter chocolate! I wanted more sweet and savory, so I chose salty sunflower seeds and banana with peanut butter. You can definitely add your personal touch in many ways.

This would be a great idea for a birthday party activity for the kids. A tasty treat but also a #healthy option. I’m sure we will be making more of these #snacks in the future.
